Increase Return on Employee

 

Your safety and injury prevention culture has a significant impact on your Return On Employee (ROE). Health care, worker’s compensation costs, and insurance premiums are at all time highs. These costs are undermining the health and wellness of not only employees, but the financial wellness of business and industry.

Workplace injuries are caused by an accumulation of many risk factors that can wear down the worker’s body, leaving it susceptible to injury.  Over time, these risks can lead to fatigue, discomfort, decreased productivity and musculoskeletal disorders (MSD’s).  MSD’s cost companies billions of dollars every year.

In addition to workplace injuries, poor body mechanics and health habits used by employees both on and off the job contribute to the rising costs of your company.  For example, chronic diseases, which are largely preventable, are responsible for 75% of health care spending.

This is not the time to roll with the economic punches; this is the time to be proactive to contain your health care costs. Think prevention!

Athletic Trainers in the Workplace

The “workplace athletic trainer” model has a proven track record of success for increasing Return On Employee.  With their expansive knowledge of human physiology, athletic trainers are in a unique position to work with employees. In addition to being able to identify and correct ergonomic risk factors, athletic trainers are able to work with employees to use their bodies correctly and keep their bodies fit for the work they have chosen to do.

The National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) conducted a national survey of industrial companies that utilize the services of an athletic trainer:

  • 100% of the companies reported the athletic trainer provides a favorable return-on-investment.

Of the companies that tracked a specific ROI amount:

  • 30% indicated ROI was at least $7/employee per $1 invested.
  • 83% indicated ROI was more than $3/employee per $1 invested.
  • 94% of companies indicated the severity of injuries had decreased by at least 25%.
  • 68% of the companies indicated that the certified athletic trainer helped to decrease restricted workdays and workers’ compensation claims for musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) by more than 25%.
  • 50% of the companies reported that the number of injuries decreased by at least 50%.
  • 46% of the companies that provided on-site physical rehabilitation indicated that health care costs had decreased by more than 50%.
